Education

I am a lifelong learner.  Ever since I graduated from Christiansburg High School, located in Virginia, in 1983, I have continued my learning experiences.  Radford University was my first stop after high school.  While I was there, I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business with a concentration in Marketing in 1987.  In my first college experience, I went for a money making career.  I realized I was not where I needed to be, so I went back to school.  Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina is the institution where I received my Education Degree in Elementary Education in 1992.  After moving to South Carolina, my love for learning did not stop.  I then attended The Citadel and achieved a Masters in Education in Reading by 1998.  In 2001, I achieved National Board Certification, in which I was able to really reflect and grow my personal teaching ability.  I truly grew as a teacher during this process.  I have since renewed my National Board Certificate, effective in 2011 until 2021.  I continually persue opportunities to expand my knowledge and grow as a teacher.

Experience

My first teaching assignment was at DF Walker Elementary, in Edenton, NC, teaching kindergarten from 1992-1994.  My husband and I decided to move to South Carolina.  Georgetown School District hired me to teach a Special Needs class at Pleasant Hill High School for the school year 1994-1995.  Starting in the Fall of 1995, I began teaching at McDonald Elementary  and have been here ever since.   I have taught a variety of grades and programs here at McDonald, including second, third, fifth grade, as well as small group teaching of reading in first and fifth grade, and small group math in third, fourth, and fifth.  I am currently teaching fifth grade and have been on the fifth grade team since Fall of 2007.
